Before you start your ABN application, check whether the
entity is entitled to an ABN.
In general terms to be entitled to an ABN the entity must be
one of the following:

All applications to register for an ABN can be completed online except
for Government Organisations.
Applications for Governmentorganisations can be obtained by phoning 1300 130 902
between 8.00am and 6.00pm Monday to Friday.
Applicants who complete their ABN application online will
receive immediate notification of their ABN if all information is provided and
correct. This will be followed with written notification.
Upon successful completion of an ABN application online, the
details will appear on the Australian Business Register (ABR) and will be
available to users of the ABR. Under
certain circumstances, such as personal danger, an applicant may have details
withheld from the ABR. If you feel this applies to your situation, you should
not apply online. For further

If you previously had an ABN that has been cancelled you can
use this online application to re-apply for an ABN for the same entity type.
The ABN notification will not be immediate, and you will be notified when the
ABN has been processed. To assist minimising the delay, provide the previous
