How do I apply for an ABN?

Purpose

To provide the procedure for applying for an Australian business number (ABN).

 

Step 1

Select <Apply for ABN>

 

Step 2

Select<Start a new application>

 

Step 3

Note reference number and create password

 

Step 4

Read supporting information and privacy statement

 

 

Step 5

Complete application details

 

Step 6

Complete declaration and submit application

 

 

Step 7

Notification of ABN

  1. From the main menu, select <Apply for ABN>.
  2. Select<Start a new application>.
  3. When starting a new application, you will be given a reference number and asked to create a password. Write down your reference number and password in case you want to save your application and complete it at a later stage. An incomplete application is held on the system for seven days and must be completed within this time.
  4. Important information on what information you will need to complete the application will be provided. In addition to this a privacy statement is displayed outlining certain privacy issues. Please read this carefully.
  5. Complete all details. For help in completing each field, click on the '?' button beside the field.
  6. Complete the declaration and <Submit> the application.
  7. You will receive notification of your ABN immediately upon the completion of a successful registration. If required, select the <Print> button to print the screen displaying your ABN. This will be followed up with a written notification.

    If the Registrar is unable to resolve and finalise your application, a member of staff will contact you.
