How is the security of information achieved on the ABR?

When providing information to a government agency that is legally entitled to receive it, the Australian Business Register (ABR) uses secure point-to-point technology to ensure a secure transmission of data.

An entity or their nominated tax agent can apply for an Administrator AUSkey which identifies and authenticates the user and allows them to access their/their client's Australian business number (ABN) record online and update or make changes to their details/their client's details in a secure online environment. Active ATO primary digital certificate holders can also access this information.

Transactions that are taking place in a secure environment are identified by the ABR secure logo in the top right hand corner of the transaction window.

For further information, refer to the ABR security policy.

To register for an AUSkey:

If you have an active ATO digital certificate, we recommend you use it to register for an AUSkey at your earliest convenience to avoid delays in doing business with us online.
