An ABR partner is a government agency that has entered into an agreement with the Registrar of the Australian Business Register to access ABN details from the ABR (in accordance with the law).
ABR agreements that specify the information the ABR partner will have access to and the purposes for which they may use this information under both the ABN legislation and their own legislation.
There are two types of information access available to ABR partners.
The frequency with which an ABR partner receives ABN information can vary and is dependent on that agency’s needs.
The ABN resulted from requests by businesses for a single number to be used in their interactions with all levels of government. To make a system like this work, participating government agencies need access to particular business details. The ABN legislation allows the Registrar to disclose ABR information to ABR partners to:
